Volunteering

Thank you for considering Naperville Area Humane Society’s volunteer program. We are always looking for dedicated volunteers to join our team!

Naperville Area Humane Society's volunteer program is open to anyone 10 years or older with a willingness to work on behalf of cats and dogs. Kids 10 to 15 years old are welcome to volunteer as long as they have an adult sponsor (someone over 18 years of age) to volunteer with them.

We ask that you commit to a minimum of 4 hours per month for one year. The animals depend on you!

To get started, all new volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation. Volunteer orientations are held through out the year at the Naperville Municipal Building. The meetings are open to anyone interested in finding out more information about NAHS and the volunteer program. Volunteer applications are handed out at the end of each orientation.

To help underwrite the volunteer program and materials, there is a $25 program fee for the first year and a $10 renewal fee every year thereafter. After attending the orientation, you will be asked to turn in your application along with the $25 volunteer program fee.

Once we have received your application along with the fee, we will pull together your training materials, name tag and volunteer t-shirt. You will then be asked to complete a General Policy Evaluation and pick the volunteer positions you are interested in. You will attend training for your desired position and we will set your volunteer schedule. We ask that you commit a minimum of 4 hours a month for one year and that you schedule all your volunteer hours ahead of time.

Naperville Area Humane Society has a large variety of volunteer opportunities available. With so many choices, it should be easy to find the perfect one for you!

Feeding and Cleaning of Cats or Dogs

This is a morning position starting at 8am. The nicest thing you can do for a shelter animal is provide it with a clean, comfortable environment.

Socializing & Enrichment of Cats or Dogs

Help make the shelter pets more adoptable by reducing their stress and making them happy. You will learn effective dog training techniques if you chose a dog related volunteer position.

Foster Homes

Open your home to pregnant pets, puppies or kittens that are not yet ready for adoption. You will need to be licensed by the Illinois Department of Agriculture through NAHS.

Outreach, Retail Events

Spread the word. Represent NAHS at various events and retail stores throughout the community or help plan events.

Pet Therapy
Make someone smile. Visit area senior centers with your own dog or a NAHS shelter dog. Your dog needs to be well behaved and current on vaccinations.
Adoption Greeter
Bring pets and people together by assisting with adoptions. Through training, you will learn how to assist potential adopters with the adoption process.
Humane Education
Teach youngsters about the responsibility of caring for animals and the love they get in return by helping with the NAHS’ summer camp, after school program, shelter tours and classroom presentations. Assistance is also need with marketing programs and developing school contacts.
Office Assistant
A jack-of-all-trades. Greet visitors, answer the telephone, data entry and other clerical tasks.
Paws for Tales Reading Program

Visit a local school with your CGC or Delta certified dog giving children a chance to read a book to non-judgmental, supportive listener (your dog)!

Fundraising
Execute NAHS sponsored fundraising events.
