Adopt a Cat

Listed below are the cats currently available for adoption at NAHS. Kittens under the age of 5 months are typically not listed because they find new homes quickly. If you're interested in kittens under the age of 5 months, please call the shelter for more information. Bagheera 7Y 5M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

Do you know that the first part of my name means tiger in Hindi? I think that is pretty cool; after all, I am a distant relative of the tiger. You Disney fans should recognize my name. Think carefully… in what movie does my name appear? While you're thinking of the answer, how about letting me sit in your lap and give you a sample of what it would be like if you took me home. I like to be petted when I ask for it, and I might enjoy living with another gentle cat. If there are children in my new home, I think it's okay if they're on the younger side (maybe around 5?). I'm a pretty gentle guy, but kids need to understand how cats should be treated. I can be quite the conversationalist, so stop on by so we can chat.

Bugsy 13Y 5M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

Just because I'm 13 doesn't mean I'm not still a busy guy. First, I need to check out what's happening out the window. Next, I'll see if any closets need looking into. Finally, I'll move on to help you while you're working at the computer, or whatever else you might be doing. And then there are my naps -- I can't be late for those! I always have time, however, for hanging out with you! I'm affectionate, snuggly, and gentle! I do like some toys, but I like it best when you can play with me. Having someone to care for me who's not away from home very much is my dream. Are you that person? Visit with me, and you just might realize that you and I are meant to be.

Hunter and Racey 14Y 4M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

Are you looking to add a pair of friendly, affectionate and playful cats to your family?  Then look no further, you found us!  Some of our favorite activities include feather toys, catnip and being petted.  Our new home needs to be OK with having talkative cats, because we are chatty!  We talk to you, we talk to each other, if you listen closely, you might even be able to understand us.  We have lived with dogs before so we should be ok with them living in our new home.  One last thing, we do need to be on a special diet for health reasons so it would probably be best if we were the only cats in the home.  Stop by soon and say hi, we can't wait to chat!

Jessie 9Y 2M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

I'm a friendly and affectionate guy, waiting patiently for my new family to come find me. While I love getting attention, I'm not a guy who likes being in the limelight and much prefer to watch from the sidelines when there is a lot of excitement going on. Because of this I would probably prefer a quiet home atmosphere. I can live with other cats and maybe a cat-savvy dog. Children in my new home should be at least 5 years old. Stop by soon and come meet me!

Mallory 2Y 5M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

You'll probably find me curled up in warm bed, sleeping the day away.  You might say I'm living the dream!  And while I'm not complaining, I would much rather be in a loving home where I can get all the love and attention I deserve.  Some of my hobbies include sleeping, bird watching (from inside of course), and watching T.V.  According to my foster mom, Star Wars is my favorite.  There's lasers and fast moving fighter jets, can you blame a girl for being intrigued?  I would probably be ok with another cat in my new home, but I'm not too sure how I feel about dogs.  If you're looking for a laid back cat, stop by soon and say hi!

Midge 2Y 9M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

I was found wondering the streets of Chicago when a nice person picked me up and that’s how I ended up here. Turns out I was pregnant, so I’d say my kittens and I are pretty lucky. They have all found their new homes, and now it’s my turn! I can be a bit shy at first, but am friendly and loving once I feel comfortable with you. Because of this, it would be best if my new home was on the quiet side to help me feel more confident. If there’s another cat in the home, I would prefer them also be calm. I don’t think I have ever met a dog, but I’ve heard they can be quiet loud. It would also be good if children were older and had experience with cats. I know in the right home with the right family I’ll get more confidence. The question is, are you that family?

Roman 1Y 11M Domestic Shorthair Male Adopted!

Ciao tutti! Mi chiamo Roman e sono un gatto molto amichevole.
Okay, enough of that. My name is Roman, and I'm quite friendly. I like all things Italian -- especially the food, but that doesn't mean I should have any. Pasta is full of carbs, and it's not good for me.  Like all young cats, I like to play and sometimes stir up a little mischief. I'm used to living with at least one other cat, so I might enjoy that in my new home, especially if that cat likes to play. I'm pretty easy going, so I think I'd be okay living with young children as long as they understand how to treat and respect pets. I look forward to see you soon. Arrivederci!

Sophie 8Y 10M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

I had a nice home, a warm and loving environment, but through a series of unfortunate events, I ended up at the shelter.  It was no ones fault, but here I am.  So now I'm searching for a new forever home with a nice warm bed that I can curl up in, and maybe a big window so I can look outside.  I can be a little shy in new situations, so my new family will need to understand it might take me a while to become comfortable in the home.  I get along with some cats, but I don't think I've met a dog, but I've heard they can be loud and I think I would prefer a quiet home.  So now that you know a little about me, stop by the shelter and learn more!

Stormi 6Y 10M Lynx Point Siamese mix Female Available Front

I’m certainly not what you’d think of when you hear the name Stormi; I think I’m quite the opposite. I’m a pretty calm and quiet girl who enjoys snuggling and gentle affection. I can be very shy in new surroundings and around unfamiliar people, but once I start to feel comfortable, I won’t stop nudging your hand asking for pets. Toys are okay to have, but I don’t think of myself as being super playful. I might bat around a toy mouse or jump for a feather toy if the mood strikes, but I think I’d rather watch the birds (from inside the house, of course) or a good movie on TV. If you have a quiet, calm home and are searching for a feline friend, check me out. With me at your side, it’s sunny days ahead!

Topher 2Y 5M Domestic Shorthair Male Adopted! No

Like the actor for whom I'm named, I enjoy the spotlight and the accolades, but when I'm overwhelmed by the situation, I might take a step back and watch from afar.  I enjoy playing, eating, sleeping, watching the birds outside from the safety of my own home, and attention from my humans.  I might enjoy having another cat in the home to play with as well.  I'm quiet and very tidy -- I'm no trouble at all.  The only way for me to prove that to you is for you to give me a forever home.  C'mon, what's stopping you?

Waldo 7Y 6M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

Where's Waldo? I'm here… the orange tabby wearing the brown collar. I don't have to worry about blending in with the crowd, because in my opinion, I'm one in a million. I'm a pretty gentle guy, and my idea of a great day would be bird watching (from inside the house), sleeping in the sun, having a bite to eat, nudging you for some pets, and repeating. I am FIV positive, but that doesn't mean I can't live a normal life. My stress level should be kept as low as possible, and I should definitely have yearly vet visits. If you're lucky enough to welcome me into your family, please don't dress me in a red and white stiped shirt.  LOL!
