Adopt a Cat

Listed below are the cats currently available for adoption at NAHS. Kittens under the age of 5 months are typically not listed because they find new homes quickly. If you're interested in kittens under the age of 5 months, please call the shelter for more information. The list of available cats is updated frequently, so please check the site often. For more information our adoption process, click here. Bagheera 7Y 8M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

Do you know that the first part of my name means tiger in Hindi? I think that is pretty cool; after all, I am a distant relative of the tiger. You Disney fans should recognize my name. Think carefully… in what movie does my name appear? While you're thinking of the answer, how about letting me sit in your lap and give you a sample of what it would be like if you took me home. I like to be petted when I ask for it, and I might enjoy living with another gentle cat. If there are children in my new home, I think it's okay if they're on the younger side (maybe around 5?). I'm a pretty gentle guy, but kids need to understand how cats should be treated. I can be quite the conversationalist, so stop on by so we can chat.

Just because I'm 13 doesn't mean I'm not still a busy guy. First, I need to check out what's happening out the window. Next, I'll see if any closets need looking into. Finally, I'll move on to help you while you're working at the computer, or whatever else you might be doing. And then there are my naps -- I can't be late for those! I always have time, however, for hanging out with you! I'm affectionate, snuggly, and gentle! I do like some toys, but I like it best when you can play with me. Having someone to care for me who's not away from home very much is my dream. Are you that person? Visit with me, and you just might realize that you and I are meant to be.

Catarina 9Y 1M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

Here I am on the desk: the perfect office helper. If someone is working at the computer, I'm right there making sure things are done correctly. Some people might say that I'm a stereotypical cat, coming to you when I want attention. While it is true that I want attention on my terms, I don't see anything wrong with that. I'm generally pretty calm, but when the mood strikes me, I like to chase little mouse toys. I don't mind some other cats, but I'm not too sure about dogs; if you ask me, they're big, clumsy, noisy, and they smell weird.  I think children in my new home should be at least 8 years old.

What did you say? I don’t look or act as if I’m 11 years old? You’re right, I don’t . My motto is that you’re only as old as you feel. I have a “paw-some” personality: I’m outgoing, affectionate, cuddly, and playful… I love little toy mice. I’ll carry them around and sometimes put them in my food or water bowl. I get along with other gentle cats, and I might even be okay with a calm, gentle dog that has cat experience. I think children in my new home should be at least 5 years old.

Hunter and Racey 14Y 7M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

Are you looking to add a pair of friendly, affectionate and playful cats to your family?  Then look no further, you found us!  Some of our favorite activities include feather toys, catnip and being petted.  Our new home needs to be OK with having talkative cats, because we are chatty!  We talk to you, we talk to each other, if you listen closely, you might even be able to understand us.  We have lived with dogs before so we should be ok with them living in our new home.  One last thing, we do need to be on a special diet for health reasons so it would probably be best if we were the only cats in the home.  Stop by soon and say hi, we can't wait to chat!

Lolly 0Y 8M Domestic Shorthair Female Adopted! No

Sugar and spice and everything nice, that's what young cats are made of.  Well maybe not quite, but I am super sweet like my name implies and that's what really matters.  I like to have my head rubbed but if you move too quickly I get startled.  Slow and steady wins the race, right?  I think I would be happiest in a quieter home where I can look out the window and watch all the squirrels and birds outside.  I love the "kitty vision" TV at the shelter and can only imagine how much better the real deal is!  I seem to get along with the other cats but I don't think I've ever met a dog.  Maybe one that has lived with cats before and is more on the mellow side would be OK.  Stop by soon, I'll be the one watching T.V.

Midge 3Y 0M Domestic Shorthair Female Adopted! No

I was found wondering the streets of Chicago when a nice person picked me up and that’s how I ended up here. Turns out I was pregnant, so I’d say my kittens and I are pretty lucky. They have all found their new homes, and now it’s my turn! I can be a bit shy at first, but am friendly and loving once I feel comfortable with you. Because of this, it would be best if my new home was on the quiet side to help me feel more confident. If there’s another cat in the home, I would prefer them also be calm. I don’t think I have ever met a dog, but I’ve heard they can be quiet loud. It would also be good if children were older and had experience with cats. I know in the right home with the right family I’ll get more confidence. The question is, are you that family?

Pat 3Y 9M Domestic Shorthair See my story below Available No

"A lot of people say, Who's that? It's Pat! A lot of people ask, Who's he? Or She?"

Those words could be my theme song. My name is Pat, and I'm somewhat unique in that I'm both male and female. That's something cool you could tell your friends, huh? I'm friendly, mellow and sometimes chatty, and I'm used to a quiet home. I think a lot of activity would be overwhelming. I enjoy scratches behind my ears, climbing on my cat tree and chasing the laser light -- I never seem to catch it, though. I also like a really clean litter box. We cats are fastidious creatures. I'd be happiest as an only pet, and I think kids in my new home should be at least 8 years old. If you're looking for a constant companion who's tidy and doesn't take up much space, look no further... it's Pat.

Valentine 0Y 6M Domestic Shorthair Female Adopted! No

I'm a fun, playful girl ready to find a family to call my own.  I am very affectionate and will nuzzle up against you when I want my ears scratched.  Because of how loving I can be, I prefer to have all of your attention to myself and do need to be the only cat in the home.  I love to play with all types of toys and do a pretty good job of keeping myself entertained.  To be honest, it'll probably keep you entertained too!  I'm not sure if I've ever met a dog before, but it might be best if I'm the only pet.  If I sound like the friend you've been searching for, there's only one question I have for you.  Will you be mine?

Waldo 7Y 9M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

Where's Waldo? I'm here… the orange tabby wearing the brown collar. I don't have to worry about blending in with the crowd, because in my opinion, I'm one in a million. I'm a pretty gentle guy, and my idea of a great day would be bird watching (from inside the house), sleeping in the sun, having a bite to eat, nudging you for some pets, and repeating. I am FIV positive, but that doesn't mean I can't live a normal life. My stress level should be kept as low as possible, and I should definitely have yearly vet visits. If you're lucky enough to welcome me into your family, please don't dress me in a red and white striped shirt.  LOL!

Willy 12Y 1M Domestic Shorthair Male Adopted! Front

Silly Willy? Maybe, but that’s for me to know and you to find out. I’m really not a jokester, but more of a refined, distinguished gentleman. Known to be a bit shy, I’d be best in a calm, quiet home where I’m the only pet. You see, I can be a bit chatty sometimes, and I don’t like other pets interrupting me. When I speak, everyone should listen. My daily activities might include jumping to high places, and a rousing game of “chase the little red light.” I do enjoy pets and scratches on my head, but only when I ask for it. If there are children in my new home, I’d like them to be older (at least 8 years, please), and as I mentioned earlier, I really would be happiest as an only pet. Thanks for listening; ta ta for now.
