Adopt a Cat

Listed below are the cats currently available for adoption at NAHS. Kittens under the age of 5 months are typically not listed because they find new homes quickly. If you're interested in kittens under the age of 5 months, please call the shelter for more information. The list of available cats is updated frequently, so please check the site often. For more information our adoption process, click here. Alan 1Y 6M Domestic Shorthair Male Available None

If a friendly, laid-back guy is what you’re looking for, then look no further, here I am!  I think I would enjoy relaxing in a soft bed, maybe by a window where I can look outside and watch the birds.  I can also be quite playful when I want, and I enjoy playing with all different types of toys.  I get along with most other cats but I’m not sure if I’ve ever met a dog.  Come meet me soon!

Bridget 2Y 10M Domestic Shorthair Female Available None

All I need is 24 hours in my new home, and I'll be up on all the gossip.  Beware, though, that I might spill some of your secrets. I'm a good listener, but an even better talker. So, if you're searching for a quiet kitty to complete your family, sorry, but I'm not that girl. Besides talking, I like to play with toys, run, jump and eat. Oh, and did I mention I like to eat? (Get the picture?) I love my food, and I do require a special prescription diet… one for cats with sensitive stomachs. I might like to live with another cat, but I don’t know for sure, and I've never met a dog. C'mon and check me out!

Charmed & Shadow 12Y 9M Domestic Shorthair Female, Male Available Charmed, No; Shadow, All Four

We’re a pair of best friends who’ve been together almost all of our lives, and we’d like to enjoy our senior years in a calm, quite home. We’re quite shy, so a household without a lot of activity is where we’d be happiest. It would also be ideal if our new human companion(s) were home a lot so that we could get a lot of attention. The minute you start to pet either of us, we become purring machines. We do require a special lifetime prescription diet and would enjoy being the only pets in the house.

Chelsea 4Y 9M Domestic Shorthair Female Available None

I'm a pretty laid back girl, happy to curl up in a nice warm bed and take a nap.  When I'm feeling playful, I enjoy laser pointers and chasing after strings.  My favorite thing though is being scratched underneath my chin and behind my ears.  It would be best if children in my new home were at least 8 years old, since really young kids seem to stress me out.  I get along with some other cats but I don't think that I have ever met a dog.  If a mellow girl is what you're looking for to complete your family, stop by and meet me soon!

Gypsy 6Y 5M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

Hi there, my name is Gypsy! Don't you just love my unique coloring? I think it gives me a lot of character. I came to NAHS because my owners didn't have enough time for me, so now I'm looking for a family that is going to give me all the love and attention I deserve. I can be a bit shy at first, but once I warm up to you I am very affectionate and playful. I might be okay living with another friendly, mellow cat and a calm, gentle dog might be fine as well. Because I can be a little shy at first, I think children in my new home should be at least 5 years or older.

Lacie 6Y 4M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

I'm a friendly girl who will be happiest with someone who has a lot of time to spend with me. I get a little stressed out when I'm home alone. My previous family said that I'm pretty needy and that I might have some separation anxiety. I like lots of different types of toys: glitter balls, feathers, toy mice, and catnip. I also like jump at those wand-type toys with a feather on the end. F-U-N! Because of my desire for a calm, quiet home, I'd be best without children (too much activity) and no other pets.

Licorice 9Y 3M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

What's a sweet and handsome guy like me doing here?  Well I'll be honest, I'm not really sure.  I was found in a parking lot and brought to NAHS when nobody claimed me at animal control.  I like being near people and getting attention, but I can be a little shy at first.  One of the quickest ways to my heart is through treats.  Give me one (or two) and I'll be your best friend!  I seem to get along with most other cats but I'm not sure if I've ever met a dog before.  Don't wait too long to come say hi!

Loretta 2Y 8M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

If it weren't for the kindness of strangers, I might not be here (or anywhere) to tell my story. I was found in an Oklahoma cornfield nursing a litter of newborn kittens. When I came to NAHS (after a long ride with a bunch of dogs), I'd really never had anyone to care about me. It's taken me a while to get used to attention, but sometimes I even ask for it now. I need a very patient, understanding family who willl let me get used to new surroundings on my own schedule. Going to a new home where nothing is familiar to me will be stressful and scary. When I'm comfortable and trusting, I'm quite playful and curious. I'd be best in a calm home with older kids.

Mariah 0Y 7M Domestic Shorthair Female Adopted! No

Have you ever known anyone who was allergic to you? I have, and it’s not fun. I thought I was all set: warm house, loving family, toys and food all around. Then, not so much. I can’t even remember the day I came to NAHS — it was all a blur. But, I’ve adjusted and now I’m ready for a new home, family, toys… you get the idea. Hopefully my next home will be my final home. I’m a shy girl who’s a little unsure of the world, so a calm, quiet home is where I think I’d be happiest. Give me the time I need to feel comfortable, and I’ll be forever thankful. You can’t rush a good thing as they say. I might enjoy having a feline buddy in my new home, and I think kids should be a little older — maybe 8 years old or so.

Pawlie 1Y 6M Domestic Shorthair Male Available None

Here's the deal: I was found outside on a very cold day. Is that any way for a cat to live? I don't think so, and neither do the nice people who helped me. I'm super ready to find a family who will let me stay inside where I belong. I'm called Pawlie because I have really big feet and more toes than a "normal" cat. How big are my feet? You'll have to meet me to find out. I'm pretty easy going gentle, and I think I would probably adjust well to most any household.

Pumpkin 7Y 8M Domestic Shorthair Male Adopted! No

I've been told I'm sweeter than pumpkin pie and people love me more than pumpkin spice lattes! I love attention and really like playing with laser pointers and feather toys. I can live with another cat but would prefer if no dogs. Do you have room in your home for a playful, affectionate guy like me? I'll be waiting for you to come meet me!

Simba 3Y 3M Domestic Shorthair Male Adopted! No

Who knows what the name Simba means? It's Swahili for Lion, and I do think of myself as king of the jungle -- and king of everything if you must know. I'm affectionate and playful, but I do prefer things on my own terms. As a royal feline, that's my prerogative. I came here because someone was allergic to me, and at first I was not happy about the abrupt change in my life. I'm okay with it now, but as my friend Dorothy would say, "There's no place like home." I can play rough sometimes, so I think kids in my new home should be at least 8 years old and understand how to respect a kitty's privacy.

Waldo 6Y 6M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

Where's Waldo? I'm here… the orange tabby wearing the brown collar. I don't have to worry about blending in with the crowd, because in my opinion, I'm one in a million. I was found wandering the streets of Chicago, all alone, just wanting someone to care for me. I'm very thankful now to have a safe place to be and nothing to worry about. I'm a pretty gentle guy, and my idea of a great day would be bird watching (from inside the house), sleeping in the sun, having a bite to eat, nudging you for some pets, and repeating. I am FIV positive, but that doesn't mean I can't live a normal life. My stress level should be kept as low as possible, and I should definitely have yearly vet visits. If you're lucky enough to welcome me into your family, please don't dress me in a red and white stiped shirt.  LOL!
