Belle 12Y 11M Domestic Shorthair Female Available Front

Twelve years old and not a care in the world, or so I thought. Some younger children joined my family, and wouldn't you know it? One was really allergic to me. I was not happy to hear that. Time now to find next and last forever home. While I can be afraid/shy around unfamiliar people, my previous family said that when I know you, I'm playful, affectionate, talkative, gentle and friendly. I prefer to be the only cat in the family, but I have lived with a dog before. If you'd like to give an older girl a new outlook on life, please ask to meet Belle.

Boo 2Y 1M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

BOO! Did I startle you? Since my fur has so many colors, I can sometimes blend in, sort of like a Chameleon. I'm a friendly girl who can sometimes be overwhelmed in new situations or with new people. Once I’m comfortable in my surroundings, I'm quite content. I enjoy playing, but sometimes I can be too rough for young children. I would probably enjoy a nice friendly cat in my new home with whom I can become great pals. I'm not sure if I like dogs because I've never seen one up close. I have heard stories, though. They say that "life is but a dream," and my dream is a forever home with a family who loves me for who I am.

Charmed and Shadow 12Y 7M Domestic Shorthair Female, Male Available Charmed, No; Shadow, All Four

We’re a pair of best friends who’ve been together almost all of our lives, and we’d like to enjoy our senior years in a calm, quite home. We’re quite shy, so a household without a lot of activity is where we’d be happiest. It would also be ideal if our new human companion(s) were home a lot so that we could get a lot of attention. The minute you start to pet either of us, we become purring machines. We do require a special lifetime prescription diet and would enjoy being the only pets in the house.

Gypsy 6Y 3M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

Hi there, my name is Gypsy! Don't you just love my unique coloring? I think it gives me a lot of character. I came to NAHS because my owners didn't have enough time for me, so now I'm looking for a family that is going to give me all the love and attention I deserve. I can be a bit shy at first, but once I warm up to you I am very affectionate and playful. I might be okay living with another friendly, mellow cat and a calm, gentle dog might be fine as well. Because I can be a little shy at first, I think children in my new home should be at least 5 years or older.

Kitty 3Y 4M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

Come closer and you'll see that I'm a polydactyl cat, also known as a Hemingway cat. What does that mean? It means I have extra toes. It looks as if I have thumbs! Don't worry, though. I can't open jars or doors… at least I don't think I can. I'm very friendly, but I can be shy in new situations. I hope my new family will understand how stressful change can be for cats. I enjoy being adored and doing normal cat things: eating, sleeping, playing, and watching what's going on outside from a safe inside perch. I also like to read Hemingway, for obvious reasons.

Lacie 6Y 2M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

I'm a friendly girl who will be happiest with someone who has a lot of time to spend with me. I get a little stressed out when I'm home alone. My previous family said that I'm pretty needy and that I might have some separation anxiety. I like lots of different types of toys: glitter balls, feathers, toy mice, and catnip. I also like jump at those wand-type toys with a feather on the end. F-U-N! Because of my desire for a calm, quiet home, I'd be best without children (too much activity) and no other pets.

Licorice 9Y 0M Domestic Shorthair Male Available

What's a sweet and handsome guy like me doing here?  Well I'll be honest, I'm not really sure.  I was found in a parking lot and brought to NAHS when nobody claimed me at animal control.  I like being near people and getting attention, but I can be a little shy at first.  One of the quickest ways to my heart is through treats.  Give me one (or two) and I'll be your best friend!  I seem to get along with most other cats but I'm not sure if I've ever met a dog before.  Don't wait too long to come say hi!

Loretta 2Y 6M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

If it weren't for the kindness of strangers, I might not be here (or anywhere) to tell my story. I was found in an Oklahoma cornfield nursing a litter of newborn kittens. When I came to NAHS (after a long ride with a bunch of dogs), I'd really never had anyone to care about me. It's taken me a while to get used to attention, but sometimes I even ask for it now. I need a very patient, understanding family who willl let me get used to new surroundings on my own schedule. Going to a new home where nothing is familiar to me will be stressful and scary. When I'm comfortable and trusting, I'm quite playful and curious. I'd be best in a calm home with older kids.

Poncho 1Y 7M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

Playful? Yes. Rambunctious? Yes. Affectionate? Outgoing and cuddly? Yes, yes, and yes. You might be wondering why I'm here if I'm so great. Well, it's like this: I got a little stressed out with the kids in the house, and I felt left out. My goal is to be the center of attention, the apple of your eye, your one and only… get it? I enjoy lots of playtime and attention, so if you're searching for a cat to cherish and adore, look no further. Take me home, meow.

Sophie 4Y 6M Domestic Shorthair Female Adopted! No

I'm a very sweet girl who's a little unsure of the world. I'm here because there was too much going on in my home and that stressed me out. My family didn't have a lot of time for me and thought it best that I find a home where I'll be happier. Once I'm comfortable, I become quite playful! I like chasing the laser pointer and jumping for wand-type feather toys. I'm affectionate on my own terms, but look out… I can be a purr machine. My ideal home would be calm and quiet with a person who's home a lot to give me all the time and patience I need to adjust.

Waldo 6Y 4M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

Where's Waldo? I'm here… the orange tabby wearing the brown collar. I don't have to worry about blending in with the crowd, because in my opinion, I'm one in a million. I was found wandering the streets of Chicago, all alone, just wanting someone to care for me. I'm very thankful now to have a safe place to be and nothing to worry about. I'm a pretty gentle guy, and my idea of a great day would be bird watching (from inside the house), sleeping in the sun, having a bite to eat, nudging you for some pets, and repeating. I am FIV positive, but that doesn't mean I can't live a normal life. My stress level should be kept as low as possible, and I should definitely have yearly vet visits. If you're lucky enough to welcome me into your family, please don't dress me in a red and white stiped shirt.  LOL!

Zorro 0Y 7M Domestic Shorthair Male Adopted! No

I’m certainly not the masked outlaw everyone thinks of when they hear the name Zorro. I am, however, dashing, handsome, and playful. I also enjoy affection, but I’m usually too busy to stop and ask for it. I was very shy when I first came up to the office, but it only took a day for me to come out of my shell. Now I’m the life of the party! I can live with kids of most any age — as long as they understand how to treat a kitty — and I think I would enjoy living with another playful cat. I might even be okay living with a calm dog who's used to cats.
